DR NUPPU KOIVISTO-kaasik
Dr. Nuppu Koivisto-Kaasik is currently employed at the Uniarts Research Institute, Helsinki, as an Academy of Finland postdoctoral researcher (2022–2025). Her doctoral dissertation (University of Helsinki, 2019) analyses European ladies’ orchestras: Sähkövaloa, shampanjaa ja Wiener Damenkapelle: naisten salonkiorkesterit ja varieteealan transnationaaliset verkostot Suomessa 1877–1916 [Electric lights, champagne, and a Wiener Damenkapelle: ladies’ salon orchestras and transnational variety show networks in Finland, 1877–1916]. Koivisto-Kaasik has participated in the Daughters of music research project (led by Susanna Välimäki), which has charted the history of Finnish women composers in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Koivisto-Kaasik has studied history, aesthetics, and comparative literature at the University of Helsinki. Her research interests include (but are not limited to) women’s work in music, the history of restaurant and salon music, as well as the intersections of class, gender, and cultural background in music historiography.
